Comebacks to “You’re SO RED”?

Main Post:

Hey Reddit, this is my first post but I’m honestly so fed up. What is something I can say back to people when they comment “omg you’re SO RED!” ?

I wish people would realize how rude and hurtful it is. It’s come from coworkers, friends and even perfect strangers. My rosacea flushes even worse with emotion, so the second I smile or laugh just a little too hard or have the slightest bit of embarrassment, people just seem to naturally blurt out “So Red!”. And then I’m robbed of whatever joy I was feeling in the moment and right back to being self conscious about my skin.

I just wish I had something to say back in the moment. Doesn’t even need to be sassy, just something to reply and maybe make people think twice about commenting on someone’s skin condition right to their face :(

EDIT: A sincere “Thank you!” to everyone who’s replied! I was so nervous to post but was met with support, wit and lots of solid advice that I will be keeping in my pocket if/when this happens again. You all are awesome!

Top Comment: “Thank you, it’s a medical condition” should make them put their foot in their mouths. I have rosacea but have never gotten this comment. But I do also have oral herpes and I’ve had it since I was a tiny child. I’ve learned the way to combat people’s rude behavior is to make them face it. “It’s a medical condition I’ve had all my life and I’m honestly rather sensitive about it” “yeah I’ve been made fun of for it since I was a child, thank you.” and just staring at them rather blankly (and blushing intensely bc of the rosacea lol) I’m sorry people are being jerks. You’re not alone and you’re beautiful ! edit to add: I said I’ve never gotten the comment about rosacea - I should say, I have when I’m blushing from being embarrassed or drinking - but not necessarily when just existing

Why is my face always so red?

Main Post:

I don’t wear make up. I have a nightly routine with a gel cleanser (Elf or Versed) [because my face is so dry and it helps in the winter], Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, toner (no alcohol and only like 3x a week), Pro Bliss Liquid Exfoliant (2x a week so far - face was red long before this) and then serums: TruSkin Vit C Super Serum (2x a week), Glossier serums on days I don’t use the Super Serum (Super Pure, Super Glow, Super Bounce - I interchange them), and then just a CeraVe moisturing lotion w/ hyaluronic acid or &Sunny Intense Moisturizing Crème 100mg Broad Spectrum Cannabinoids.

I am nearly 34. I’m on my period now but my skin is always red. Top lip all of a sudden always breaks out when on period. I’m thinking it’s hormonal, and I may be in premenopause but idk.

I just want my face to be less red!

Top Comment: might be rosacea type 1. a derm can help you find a good treatment. in general i think your routine might be too much for you. rosacea is an inflammation and it makes the skin super sensitive. some ingredients might be irritating you also check r/rosacea

If I have to hear “why are you so red” one more time… 🙃

Main Post:

I’m gonna punch someone in the throat 😭 like I’m always red from my face, leave me alone !!!

Top Comment: I remember when I used to drink alcohol more frequently (now it’s a single drink every once in a while) I’d always hear “OH YOUR FACE IS SO RED” Like yes it’s my rosacea and I’m having a reaction please leave me alone 😭

how to handle the "your face is so red" comments?

Main Post:

it's so discouraging and downright embarrassing when people point this out. it's the equivalent of pointing out when someone is overweight, or underweight, or has acne, like just why? that person undoubtedly knows and doesn't need it pointed out to them. i'm so sick of the "omg your face is so red!"/"did you get sunburned" comments, every time i try to venture outside without any makeup, i am just waiting for a stupid ass comment like that which reminds me why i can't go without makeup to begin with. i hate this condition, i hate how it makes me feel like a deformed freak, i hate inconsiderate assholes that have to point it out as if we don't know. we know. please don't talk about it.

Top Comment:

I tell them I have a medical condition called Rosacea and that, actually, I’m acutely aware of how red my face is and that I don’t appreciate having my attention drawn to it by other people regardless of whether they “mean well” or not.

It does tend to kill the conversation, but I’m 48, I’ve been doing this for a while, and I don’t care any more.

Like, seriously, I don’t know you, and you don’t know me, and that’s your conversational opener? Fuck off, man. I don’t have time for your shit.

[Skin Concern] my face turns red easily and many factors trigger the redness in my face

Main Post: [Skin Concern] my face turns red easily and many factors trigger the redness in my face

Top Comment: You probably have sensitive skin or rosacea :/ I have both too. I would cut out anything with fragrance, and honestly the more simple the ingredients the better. Good luck. And if you want specifics on what I use feel free to message me! ❤️

My face's complexion is constantly red, how can I help it to be more balanced?

Main Post:

Whenever i'm out, regardless of if it's hot or cold, hydrated or dehydrated, my face is red. Not just in one place either, its usually all over. I use to struggle with acne, but majority of it is gone. I'm just worried of how to help my face's complexion.

I usually have very pale skin, which might a reason for this. Is there any products that will help balance the face's colours? Thanks in advance.

Top Comment: I have the same problem. However, I noticed that when I first wake up my face isn't red whatsoever! I wish I could make it stay like that throughout the day.
